License Renewal

Step 1.License Renewal Information

This application will collect the necessary information to renew an existing license to perform work in the City of Knoxville. The renewal process can only be performed in license types issued for permits in the new Accela system - license types from the legacy system did not transfer..

MEP  installer licenses will expire 365 days from the date of issuance or renewal; no penalties will be assessed for license expiration - you will only be unable to hold permit until the renewal process is completed.

If a license was issued in conjunction with a State of TN license, a copy of the State license will need to be uploaded showing that it is still valid. If the State of TN license is not issued in the name of the qualifying agent (person who took the test), you will need to upload documentation from the State of TN licensing board indicating who the qualifying agent is and a copy of a photo ID for the qualifying agent.

Note: MEP installer license holders have been provided a grace period of 6-months (until 6/30/2023) to complete the renewal process. Permits may be issued against any existing license transferred into the new permitting system until this day.
